Charterhouse
Thomas Sutton founded Charterhouse school in 1611 on the site of an old Carthusian monastery. The school moved to its present location, Godalming in Surrey in 1872. The school itself as well as its alumni played an important part in the early development of 'Association Football', or soccer, being key in turning footbal into a forward passing game, giving it the pace and flow present in the modern game.
