Royal Gloucestershire Hussars

In 1794 William Pitt ordered that volunteer bodies of men should be raised to defend Great Britain. Consequently, Captain Powell Snell raised the First Troop of Gloucestershire Gentlemen and Yeomanry at the Plough Inn in Cheltenham, the forerunners of the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars.
