Royal Army Medical Corps
The first appointment of a permanent medical officer in the British Army occurred in 1660 after the Restoration of Charles II. However, it was not until 1898 that officers and soldiers providing medical services were incorporated into one body under the present name, the Royal Army Medical Corps. Since then, its members have been awarded 27 Victoria Crosses and 2 bars.
