Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders

The 91st Argyllshire Highlanders, raised in 1794, and the 93rd Sutherland Highlanders, raised in 1799, were amalgamated in 1881 to form the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. These regiments had served in Waterloo, Crimea and India, with 7 members of the Sutherland Highlanders earning the prestigious Victoria Cross. Since the amalgamation, a further 9 Victoria Crosses have been awarded to members of this regiment.
